About
Bracketdle is a free daily bracket game. Every day there is one tournament, the same for everyone: eight contestants, seven matchups, and you call the winner of each, from the quarter-finals to the final. The catch is that you are never told what they are being ranked by. You know what they are ("eight countries") and the kind of measure ("a measure in kilograms"), and that is all. The measure itself is revealed only when the final is decided.
How to play
A matchup puts two contestants in the ring. Tap the one you think wins, within ten seconds. The loser's figure is then revealed, and that is your clue: "302,068 km²" tells you it is some kind of area, but not which. The winner keeps its figure secret, so the semi-finals and the final stay live. Every right call is a point, out of seven. At the final both figures are shown, the measure is announced, and the crowd has its say.
The eight names are a clue too. Eight countries chosen for their land area look like one list; eight chosen for the share of their population under fifteen look like quite another. The first pick is a hypothesis; the reveals test it. The best tournaments are the ones where the obvious guess is wrong.
There is one tournament a day, and it changes at midnight in your own time zone. When you finish you see how your bracket compares with everyone else's that day, and you can copy a result to share. Once a day is over everywhere in the world its answers go into the archive.
The facts
Each tournament's figures come from a published source, such as a national statistics office, a scientific database or an encyclopaedia's tables, and the archive names the source for every day. The figures are there to settle an order, so where sources differ by a few percent the contestants are chosen far enough apart that the order is never in doubt. New question sets are added every week. If a figure looks wrong, email the address below.
The announcer
The line the ring announcer shouts at the final is written by players. After your bracket you can hand the announcer a line; lines are checked before anyone else hears them, and yours is said to other players whose final goes the way yours did.
Who makes it
Bracketdle is an independent project with no company behind it, built and run by one person, who also makes Tallordle. It has no accounts and no sign-up, and it is paid for by a single advertisement that only appears once you have finished playing. The privacy page says exactly what the game stores.
